District 196 supports equity as a core competency through practices, structures, beliefs, resources and staffing. Aligned with Minnesota Department of Education Desegregation Rules, our Achievement and Integration Plan seeks to increase student achievement, create equitable educational opportunities, and reduce academic disparities based on students' diverse backgrounds.
American Indian Education Program
The mission of the American Indian Education program is to meet the unique cultural and academic needs of our American Indian learners by facilitating culturally responsive learning opportunities in order to make positive impacts on educational outcomes.
The Land We're On
We want to acknowledge that District 196 resides within Mni Sota Makoce - the homeland of the Dakota People, the eastern nation of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Seven Council Fires). This land has been the Dakota People's home for every generation since their creation at Bdote and Bde Wákhaŋ.
Cultural Family Advocates
The Cultural Family Advocates serve as a bridge between school, culturally and ethnically diverse students and families to increase awareness and participation for academic and social growth, while keeping their own sense of cultural identity.
Grow Your Own-Adult Pathway Program
The purpose of the Grow Your Own (GYO) program is to increase and diversify the teacher workforce. It supports eligible candidates to pursue their first teaching degree and Tier 3 teaching license with scholarship, mentorship, and professional development.
Outstanding Network of Educators Mentorship Program
The Outstanding Network of Educators (ONE) Mentorship Program provides mentorship and professional development to new and new-to-district teachers during their professional journey in the first few years in District 196.
