Educational Benefits Program
Educational Benefits Program applications provide critical funding for schools
All District 196 families are encouraged to apply for the Educational Benefits Program (formerly known as the Free and Reduced-Price Meals Program) for the upcoming school year. An application should be submitted even though breakfast and lunch will be provided to all in-person students in 2021-22 at no charge through special funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Educational Benefits Program directly supports your child's school with compensatory aid and is based on how many families submit an application. This critical funding provides additional teachers, additional instructional materials, math and reading support, and additional paraprofessionals and social workers.
An approval for educational benefits allows families to receive discounted or free meals and activity or Community Education fees. Apply online at District196.org/edbenefits; the process is safe, secure and private. Only one application is needed per household. Paper applications are also available from the front office at your child’s school. If you have questions, contact Nutrition@district196.org or call 651-683-6958.
Reminder, parents/guardians are responsible for all meal account debts incurred prior to this school year and any charges incurred through a la carte purchases.
More Than Just An Application
ALL families with children enrolled in District 196 Schools should complete an Educational Benefits Application each year.
The Educational Benefits Program is more than just an application for free and/or reduced price meals. Just one form ensures students funding continues for all students in District 196.
