District 196 moving forward with plans for November levy referendum

The District 196 School Board is moving forward with plans to call for an operating levy referendum increase this fall that would allow the district to avoid up to $18 million in additional budget cuts and fund improvements to classroom staffing, increased mental health support for students and after-school activity bus transportation.

The majority of District 196 residents surveyed this spring said they would support a local property tax increase to avoid additional budget cuts and preserve the quality of educational opportunities offered by District 196 schools.

Representatives from The Morris Leatherman Company will be contacting residents of District 196 April 25 through May 3 to gather data on the public’s satisfaction with district schools and support for bringing a levy referendum election this November.
