Advisory Councils
District 196 advisory councils provide students, parents, staff and area community members the opportunity to be involved in the decision making process and help guide the work of the district. These members are critical to the success of our schools and help build on the district's goals and mission of educating our students to reach their full potential.
Everyone is welcome to apply for membership on any of our advisory councils.
BUDGET ADVISORY COUNCIL
Ensure active community participation in and enhance community understanding of the district’s budget planning process, and provide input to the board and administration on budget plans that support district and board goals, policies and initiatives.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL
Advise and assist the Community Education Department in the fulfillment of the community education mission of providing quality lifelong learning opportunities for all residents.
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION ADVISORY COUNCIL
Ensure active community participation in planning and improving the instruction and curriculum affecting state graduation standards, and recommend to the School Board districtwide education standards, assessments and program evaluations.
EQUITY ADVISORY COUNCIL
The council’s role is to participate in analysis of data related to student achievement, attendance and discipline; the review of programs and services; community outreach to address the needs of underrepresented families, and to offer multiple perspectives and voice on matters of student equity and inclusion.
GIFTED AND TALENTED ADVISORY COUNCIL
Ensure active community participation in and enhance community understanding of the district's gifted and talent development program, and provide input to the Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council.
legislative ADVISORY COUNCIL
Enhance community understanding of legislative proposals and processes that impact District 196 and promote citizen involvement in the legislative process.
Native American PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Serve in an advisory capacity for planning and implementing programs and events that support District 196 American Indian students and their families.
SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL
Represent the interests of District 196 learners with disabilities from birth through age 21, and advise the Special Education Department on current issues, program development, parental concerns and involvement, and department priorities.
EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL
Assist in developing, planning and monitoring the Early Childhood Family Education program; provide input to the Early Childhood Family Education and School Readiness programs.
