Gifted and Talented Advisory Council
District 196 has openings on Gifted and Talented Advisory Council
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. -- District 196 is accepting applications through May 28 for two elementary parents and one community business representative on its Gifted and Talented Advisory Council (GTAC). The term for all open positions is three years, beginning July 1, 2021.
The purpose of the council is to ensure community awareness and understanding of the district's gifted and talent development (GTD) programs, and to provide input to the district’s Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council and administration on GTD programming plans that support district goals, policies and initiatives.
District 196 policy outlines GTAC membership to ensure equitable stakeholder representatives. At this time, the following representatives are needed:
- Two parents/guardians of a child in a district elementary school who is identified for the district’s gifted and talent Development (GTD) Program.
- One member representing a community business.
Members of the local business community are also welcome to apply for membership on the GTAC. Please visit the District 196 website at District196.org to see the policy in full.
Parents and staff interested in being considered for GTAC membership must apply by May 28. The application is available at District196.org or by calling Cathy Fischbach at 651-423-7885. Ensure active community participation in and enhance community understanding of the district’s gifted and talented programs, and provide input to the Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council (CIAC) and administration on gifted and talent development programming plans that support district and board goals, policies and initiatives. Four parents or guardians of an identified gifted and talented student (two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school); one representative of community business; two high school students; three district administrators (one elementary school principal, one middle school principal and one high school administrator); two district classroom teachers (one elementary school and one middle school); four district gifted and talented teachers (two elementary school, one middle school and one high school honors and advanced placement); three district support staff (such as one integration specialist, one each elementary and secondary curriculum specialist) shall serve as ex-officio members of the GTAC, and the director of teaching and learning and one School Board member shall serve as ex-officio members of the GTAC. GTAC terms are three years.
