Renewing and Increasing the Existing Technology Levy

Why it matters:

The technology capital projects levy — our district’s main source of technology funding — was first approved by voters in 2015. It expires this year unless renewed.

What it funds:
  • Student learning devices and digital tools
  • Classroom and building technology
  • Strong cybersecurity, reliable networks, and communication systems
  • Technology support and maintenance
  • Expanded computer science education
  • Enhanced career and technical education (CTE)
What’s at stake:

If the levy is not approved by voters, over $9.1 million in annual technology funding will be cut. Since the internet and technology are not going away, the budget cuts would have to come from other areas—we must ensure all students have equal access to technology.

What’s changing:
  • Current rate: 3.015%
  • Proposed rate: 5.015% (modest increase to match rising technology costs) resulting in an additional $6.4 million in technology funding per year
  • Total technology funding: $15.4 million annually
