Valley Middle School of STEM in Apple Valley earned first place in the 2025 Conservation Minnesota Crew Project for a student-led initiative focused on reduction, recycling, and regrowth.

The VMS Conservation Crew diverted over 3,000 pounds of clothing from landfills through a donation drive and planted a tree for each filled box. The team also promoted recycling with custom bin maps, student-created signage, and campuswide volunteer efforts. In addition, they tackled food waste through peer education and composting programs – building a strong culture of environmental awareness and action.
