Three District 196 middle school students qualify for state geography bee

Three District 196 middle school students are among the 100 students statewide who qualified for the Minnesota GeoBee, which will be held March 27 at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul.

The state qualifiers are Noah Daniel, a seventh-grade student at Dakota Hills Middle School; Zuber Mohamed, an eighth-grade student at Falcon Ridge Middle School, and Achyuth Kasthoori, an eighth-grade student at Scott Highlands Middle School. These students won their school-level geography bee with a score that placed them in the top 100 students statewide.

The top finisher at the state GeoBee will receive $1,000 cash and a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Minnesota at the National Geographic GeoBee in May. The 2020 national champion will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, $1,000 in cash and an all-expenses-paid expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour ll.
