The 12 District 196 residents vying for four open seats on the School Board will answer questions and share their ideas at a candidate forum Wednesday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m., at Rosemount City Hall.
The 90-minute forum is open to the public and is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Dakota County. The forum will be live-streamed on the District 196 YouTube channel and broadcast live on District 196 TV on the Charter (channel 189) and Comcast (channel 19) cable systems. The candidates for the School Board include three of the four incumbents, one former District 196 School Board member and eight other challengers. They include incumbents Joel Albright of Apple Valley, Sachin Isaacs of Burnsville and Jackie Magnuson of Rosemount, and challengers Maggie Bruecken of Apple Valley, Rebecca Gierokof Apple Valley, Curtis Henry of Rosemount, Laura Holm of Rosemount, former board member Gary Huusko of Eagan, Cory Johnson of Eagan, Angela Noonan of Eagan, Kristin Schaub of Apple Valley, and Hannibal Smith of Apple Valley.
The terms of Albright, Isaacs, Magnuson and Schutte expire Jan. 6, 2020. The term of each position up for election this November is four years, from January 2020 to January 2024.
District 196 voters can vote on the School Board election and levy referendum question now through Nov. 5. Early voting by absentee ballot opened Sept. 20 and runs through Nov. 4. Voters can absentee vote by mail by first completing and submitting an Absentee Ballot Application. In-person absentee balloting is available during business hours at the District Office in Rosemount and at the Dakota County government centers in Apple Valley, Hastings and West St. Paul.
District 196 voters can also cast their ballot on Election Day between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the polling places of the 14 combined school district precincts.
