District 196 seeks interested applicants for several advisory councils

Get involved with District 196 by joining an advisory council. There are several spots available on the district's Budget Advisory Council, Community Education Advisory CouncilCurriculum and Instruction Advisory Council, Gifted and Talented Advisory Council and Legislative Advisory Council.

Budget Advisory Council

District 196 residents are invited to apply for membership on the district’s Budget Advisory Council (BAC). The district is accepting applications through April 30 for six parent/guardian/resident positions and one teacher position. The term for all seven positions is for three years, beginning July 1, 2022.

The purpose of the BAC is to ensure active community participation in and enhanced community understanding of the district’s budget planning process, and to provide input to the School Board and administration on budget plans that support district goals, policies and initiatives.

Community Education Advisory Council

The Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC) is seeking applications from community members who wish to help provide quality lifelong learning opportunities for all residents. Impact your community by helping to shape the future direction of community education, keep abreast of community needs and connect with other community organizations. The application is available online or by contacting Khia Brown, Director of Community Education at khia.brown@district196.org

Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council

Parents in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools interested in becoming involved in districtwide conversations regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment are encouraged to apply for membership on the district’s Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council (CIAC). Applications for six open positions (two elementary, one middle school and three highs schools) will be accepted through May 3 from parents with children attending specific schools in the 2022-23 school year. The terms for all six positions are three years beginning July 1, 2022. (Complete list of available schools is listed on the application.)

The purpose of the CIAC is to ensure active community participation in all phases of planning and improving the instruction and curriculum aligning with state graduation standards. The CIAC also recommends to the School Board districtwide education standards, assessments and program evaluations.

Parents who are eligible for and interested in one of the six open CIAC positions must submit an application by May 3 to be considered. The application is available online or by calling 651-423-7885. Gifted and Talented Advisory Council

District 196 is accepting applications through April 29 for one high school parent and one community business representative on its Gifted and Talented Advisory Council (GTAC). The term for both open positions is three years, beginning July 1, 2022.

The purpose of the council is to ensure community awareness and understanding of the district's gifted and talent development (GTD) programs, and to provide input to the district’s Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council and administration on GTD programming plans that support district goals, policies and initiatives.

High school parents/guardians and local business representatives interested in being considered for one of these two openings must apply by April 29. Legislative Advisory Council

District 196 is accepting applications through April 30 for four at-large citizen positions on the district’s Legislative Advisory Council (LAC). Applicants should have some experience or interest in government affairs lobbying and/or the legislative process. The terms of all three positions are for two years beginning July 1, 2022

The purpose of the LAC is to increase citizen participation in the legislative process and community understanding of legislative issues and how they impact District 196. The council’s role is to provide input on and advocate for the district’s legislative priorities, review legislative suggestions submitted by citizens and staff, and provide input to the School Board regarding proposed legislation. The LAC meets at least four times during the school year, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and holds occasional meetings with legislators.
