Today, the Minnesota departments of education and health, along with the Office of Higher Education, provided guidance on how schools can safely celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2020 while staying aligned with public health guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The guidance prohibits multi-family gatherings of any size in a school stadium or gymnasium, and provides specific considerations for ceremonies held outside of the home, such as a car parade or parking lot ceremony where there is greater unpredictability.
For the last few weeks, members of a district graduation committee have been using ideas from students and parents, along with guidance from the district’s Pandemic Planning Team, local police departments, and state officials to develop options for graduation. With this new guidance from the state, the committee can complete its work on a plan that fits the required guidelines and celebrates our students. The district will share the selected option next week. Whatever celebration we have, we look forward to honoring our incredible seniors in the ever-resilient Class of 2020.
