A Message from Superintendent Kreger

Dear District 196 Community,

Last Sunday, Minnesota became the focus of another police-involved shooting, during which 20-year-old Daunte Wright was tragically killed. As a school district, we are saddened by this and recognize the compounding pain it may cause our students, staff and community.

This is also the third week in the trial of ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd. We are once again reminded about the emotional toll and re-traumatization that is experienced by those who feel intimately connected to these deaths.

In a school year filled with uncertainty, we recognize our students have been dealing with incredible challenges and may be struggling in different ways. We will continue to provide them with structure and support for their individual needs. This is a time for our community to unify around our students’ well being and success.

Please contact your school directly if you have specific concerns regarding your child. We have also provided links to additional resources.

Sincerely,

Mary Kreger
Superintendent
