1. Participation in physical education classes

District 196 expects all students to participate in physical education classes unless there is an appropriate written request for a student not to participate.

1.1 An elementary school student may be withheld from physical education classes with a note signed by the student's parent or guardian.

1.2 A middle school student may be withheld from participating in physical education classes for five or less consecutive school days with a note signed by the student's parent or guardian or medical practitioner (physician, chiropractor or dentist), or for six or more consecutive school days with a note signed by a medical practitioner. 

1.3 A high school student may be withheld from physical education classes for 10 or less consecutive school days with a note from the student's parent or guardian or medical practitioner, or for 11 or more consecutive school days with a signed note from a medical practitioner.
