601.8AR - Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program

1. Participation in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program without charge

Students enrolled in grades 10, 11 or 12 who have not received a high school diploma or its equivalent may be eligible to participate in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program without charge for tuition, textbooks or support services.

1.1 Students who enroll at the beginning of 9th grade may continue in this program for the equivalent of no more than four academic years (the next twelve quarters or eight semesters--excluding summer school). Students who enroll at the beginning of 10th grade may continue in this program for the equivalent of no more than three academic years (the next nine quarters or six semesters--excluding summer school). Students who enroll at the beginning of 11th grade may continue in this program for the equivalent of no more than two academic years (the next six quarters or four semesters--excluding summer school). Students who enroll at the beginning of 12th grade may continue in the program for the equivalent of no more than one academic year (the next three quarters or two semesters). A student who is not on track to graduate is not subject to the participation limits.

1.2 Students may enroll in a post-secondary course for secondary or post- secondary credit and must designate the type of credit when they enroll. The district will grant academic credit to a student enrolled in a course for secondary credit if the student successfully completes the course.

1.3 Eligible 10th grade students may enroll in one Career and Technical Education (CTE) course. A qualifying grade will allow the student to be eligible to take additional CTE courses in 10th grade. Eligible 10th grade students may also enroll with the agreement of the school district and an eligible post-secondary institution or in a world language course available to 11th and 12th grade students and consistent with Minnesota Statute 120B.022.

2. Information about post-secondary credit and the enrollment requirements

By March 1 of each year, the district will provide information to students in grades 8-12 and their parents of the ability to earn post-secondary credit and the enrollment requirements.

2.1 The district will counsel students and their parents or guardians on options, risks and consequences before the student enrolls in a post-secondary course.

2.2 Students must complete and submit a copy of the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program application (District Procedure 601.8P, Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program:  Notice of Student Registration) to their high school counselor by March 30 of each year before the year they plan to enroll in a post-secondary course. Late applications will be accepted through May 30th.

3. Reasonable access to a computer and other technology resources

The school district will provide students enrolled in a post-secondary course with reasonable access during regular school hours to a computer and other technology resources that the student needs to complete coursework for a post-secondary course.
