Elementary Distance Learning

The District 196 Distance Learning plan is unique to support the learning of students at all grade levels.

Our elementary distance learning plan includes providing unique, engaging learning opportunities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We recognize that learning at home and/or online provides a different educational experience.

The goal remains facilitating meaningful learning as effectively as possible in these circumstances and given the tools available.

Week 1 of Distance Learning:
Teachers will focus on making connections with students, re-establishing a learning community, confirming communication methods, identifying tools and resources, and establishing new routines. Later in the first week, teachers will seek to provide learning tasks that are related to skills and concepts students were learning in school before the closure.

Week 2 through end of Distance Learning:
Teachers will build upon the connections and routines from the first week, and will introduce new content and learning tasks. Teachers will also be developing opportunities for students to share their work with classmates and their teacher to assess progress.
