District 196 high school students who challenged themselves by taking College in the Schools (CIS) courses during the 2023-24 school year earned a combined 3,966 college credits valued at more than $3.1 million, according to a report released by the University of Minnesota’s College in the Schools program.

The Minnesota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (MAFCS) is thrilled to announce Mia Battistone as the 2025 Teacher of the Year (TOY). Mia, an exceptional Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) educator, has been recognized for her outstanding dedication to her students, innovative teaching methods, and commitment to advancing FCS education in Minnesota.

Leah Gardner has been elected to fill the open seat on the District 196 School Board in the Nov. 5 Special School Board election.

At the Regular School Board meeting on November 4, the District 196 School Board approved changes to the elementary school attendance areas to alleviate overcrowding in elementary schools in the southern portion of the district.

47 District 196 seniors are receiving special recognition this fall for scores they achieved on a national standardized test they took last year as juniors.

Students enrolled in a Spanish Heritage class talk about much more: reconnecting with their linguistic and cultural roots, a sense of belonging where they can be themselves, and aspirations for the professional advantage of bilingual fluency.
