Special Events
Grandparents' Day
The First and Second Grade classrooms have an annual celebration with grandparents. Grandparents or substitute grandparents are invited to join in activities in the classroom for Grandparents' Day. They are also invited to stay for lunch with all of their Woodland grandchildren. This is scheduled in the spring.
Learning Fair
The annual spring Learning Fair is a showcase for students and teachers to share examples of learning that have taken place at Woodland. During the evening open-house event, Woodland families have observed student art work, the Fifth Grade wax museum, Odyssey of the Mind performances, and numerous displays from all curriculum areas. Books and software can be purchased at a Book Fair, which is sponsored by the Woodland PTO.
Read-a-Thon
Each February, in conjunction with "I Love to Read Month," Woodland holds its own Read-a-Thon during which students in Grades K-5 are challenged to read a prescribed number of minutes. The minutes are tallied throughout the month and posted in the Library Media Center. The students work together to reach the goal, and their accomplishment is celebrated at the end of the month.
Social Committee Events
The Social Committee is one of the five committees of PTO. This committee is chaired by parent volunteers and sponsors three evening events during the year.
Family Fun Night: This event is held in October and includes one hour of entertainment followed by refreshments.
Sock Hop:
The Sock Hop is an all-school 50's style dance held in February. Woodland families enjoy dressing in 50's outfits. Refreshments and photo opportunities are available for a small fee. Due to limited capacity, families are encouraged to watch for information about ticket sales.
Family Picnic/Carnival: This event takes place the first week of June. For a small fee families can enjoy carnival activities and picnic food. This is a popular way to celebrate the end of the school year.
Track and Field Days
Each grade level has a Track and Field Day in the spring. Kindergarten through Fourth Grade students participate in a half-day event. Kindergarten, First and Second Graders participate in all events. Third and Fourth Graders choose from a variety of events. Fifth Graders travel to Eagan High School to participate in a day-long track meet with four other elementary schools.
Variety Show
The school Variety Show is a wonderful opportunity for Second through Fifth Grade students to share their talents with their peers and be part of a "theater production." A try-out is held a week before the show. All acts that are ready and appropriate will perform for the school in the Variety Show, which is held in the spring.
