District 196 Early Childhood Family Education

ECFE classes and events are offered to ALL families in the district with children in the age range from infancy up to kindergarten. In this unique program parents attend class, fun times and special events WITH their children.

It is our belief in ECFE that parents are (and must be) the child's first and most important teachers. It is for this reason that we call our program "family" education. Independent School District 196 ECFE is funded through state and local taxes and supporting foundations. Within the district, ECFE comes under the umbrella of Community Education. In early childhood family education programs we direct our energies and resources to enhancing and strengthening families through information, support and just plain fun activities.

At early childhood family education centers we believe that all parents are in a very similar position. No one is born a parent! By sharing information and experiences in the adult discussion segment of each class, we help parents "keep afloat" when the challenges of everyday family life arise.

District 196 Community Education

Community Education offers classes to adults and students. They're convenient, fun, and inexpensive. Check out the community ed web site for schedules and registration information.

Minnesota Department of Children, Families & Learning

The Minnesota Department of Education works to help communities to measurably improve the well-being of children through programs that focus on education, community services, prevention, and the preparation of young people for the world of work. All department efforts emphasize the achievement of positive results for children and their families.

By bringing under one roof all educational programs and others that address family breakdown, violence and poverty, the department strives to make services easier to access. The department models at the state level local "one-stop shops" where educational services are located together with other community resources.

Through this integration of its programs at the state level, the department encourages state education professionals and social services advocates to work together to meet the needs of Minnesota's children and families.
