Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to become involved in their child's education at Woodland Elementary. Three possible ways for involvement are to participate as a volunteer, be a member of the Woodland PTO, or serve on support teams.

Volunteer Programs

Each fall at the Open House and in the first Woodland Newsletter, parent volunteers are recruited to help at Woodland Elementary. Volunteers assist in the classroom, library, or help on art projects. Volunteers also do presentations in the classroom on special interest topics such as travel, skills and careers. Many volunteers donate time on a weekly basis, but we welcome volunteers with varying schedules or those who can work only at home. In the event that you miss our fall recruitment, you may call Woodland Elementary at any time and volunteer your services.

Woodland PTO

The PTO consists of four elected parents, six team chairpersons, six co-chairpersons, treasurer, four elected teachers, one classified staff representative, parent involvement coordinator and the building principal. Representatives are elected or appointed in the spring and may serve one or two year terms. The PTO meets monthly to make decisions regarding the school's budget, curriculum, and other school matters. Any interested parent is encouraged to attend the monthly meetings; they are always welcome.

PTO members are listed in your Woodland Parent Calendar and Handbook.

PTO Support Teams

Arts and Environment Team

This team coordinates the Art Adventure Program, promotes the Learning and Art Fair and assists teachers in planning art residencies. We will support the Art Specialist with volunteer time and other resources. Our team will also coordinate a summer maintenance schedule for the outside garden.

Fundraising Team

There are two major fundraisers: In September we will sell gift-wrap and small food items and in March we hold our annual book fair. Proceeds from fundraising goes to designated areas determined by the PTO Board.

Hospitality Team

The Hospitality Team recognizes the staff and shows our appreciation for their wonderful dedication and commitment to our children. We offer them an evening meal during Parent/Teacher Conferences in the fall and spring, as well as a breakfast. This committee also helps organize and greet visitors for Grandparents' Day in November.

School Pride Team

Our committee encourages dedication and loyalty to Woodland. We promote this enthusiasm in various ways such as selling T-Shirts and sweatshirts, clipping cereal box tops and milk caps for extra school equipment, compiling our school yearbook and organizing the Read-a-thon in February.

Social Activities Team

The Social Activities Committee sponsors three school-wide events during the year. The family fun night is held in the fall, a 50's style family sock hop held in February and a family picnic is scheduled in the spring.
