The Stop, Think and Renew (STAR) Program was developed to meet the needs of students who could benefit from assistance with learning skills and techniques to assist them with pro-social or functional academic skills. The focus of the program is to reinforce positive behaviors on a daily basis. Students in the program are involved in developing their own strategies to assist them in making positive choices. Our philosophy is to help students develop their own internal guidelines for what behaviors will help them be successful.
Another focus of the STAR Program is Peer Mediation. Peer Mediation empowers students to find their own solutions to problems in a nonthreatening environment. Students in mediation cooperatively work out their conflict with the help of trained Mediators. These Mediators are fifth grade students who have been trained in conflict resolution, restitution, and peer mediation.Peer Mediation sessions are held in the Peer Mediation Center/STAR room. Any student may request a mediation, or students may be referred through a teacher or other staff person. Peer Mediations are confidential.
