Reading Recovery is a literacy intervention program for first graders designed to help students achieve early success in reading and writing. Selected students receive 30 minutes of individualized instruction each day with a Reading Recovery teacher who has received special training in working with children who are beginning readers and writers. Parental support is also an integral part of the program with students bringing home daily homework. The goal of Reading Recovery is to enable each student to read and write independently at classroom average in a short period of time, and to reduce the number of students needing intervention in later grades.
