| The
Gifted & Talented Program is a differentiated curriculum
focusing on creative thinking, problem solving skills,
critical thinking and independent research skills. Students
are identified for this program by assessment on a standardized
cognitive test, achievement tests, and exceptional classroom
performance. Elementary students identified for this program
receive services in a resource room by the Gifted & Talented
teacher.Testing
students for G&T comes at different times of the
year depending on the grade level. All third, fourth,
and fifth graders are given standardized achievement
and cognitive tests in the fall. The G&T teacher
screens the entire third, fourth, and fifth grade for
potential students that will meet the criteria that
is set by the district. First and second graders are
tested based on teacher recommendation. The
District Gifted & Talented website features
many timely and important resources and pieces
of information. The
Elementary Resources page (http://www.district196.org/elp/ElemResources/ElemResources.cfm)
has many links to sites which would extend your child’s
