Music
classes for students in grades one through five provide
many opportunities for children to perform, create, hear,
and study a wide variety of types of music. First and
second graders meet for four twenty-five minute class
periods in each six-day cycle; third, fourth and fifth
graders meet for two fifty minute class periods in each
six day cycle. Each of the grade levels presents a concert
for their families and friends once during the school
year.
Music
Curriculum:
The
music curriculum is intended to develop music reading
skills, provide creative and expressive outlets, and
increase knowledge and appreciation of music from a
variety of cultures and historical periods. Activities
are planned to involve all children in singing, playing
instruments, listening, improvising, composing, analyzing,
and evaluating music. Frequently, topics studied in
social studies, science, art, and reading classes are
integrated into the music curriculum. The concerts
students present are a reflection of the concepts and
skills they have mastered as well as a wonderful opportunity
to share the joy of music with the community and to
develop the ability to perform in public.
