We provide a breadth of support services to our learners including special education and related services for students with disabilities.

Preschoolers between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years old who live in District 196 need to participate in a screening before entering kindergarten.

English LearnersEnglish Learners

The English Learner (EL) program supports multilingual learners in acquiring the English they need in order to succeed in the classroom and beyond, in accordance with the State of Minnesota Guidelines and English Language Proficiency Standards.

Each day, our school nurses handle more than 2,500 student visits. Nurses provide a variety of services that support a healthy learning environment for all students and staff.

Cultural Family AdvocatesEquity and Inclusion Services

District 196 is committed to increasing student achievement, creating equitable educational opportunities, and reducing academic disparities in our schools. Our Cultural Family Advocates support the Achievement and Integration Plan by working with culturally and ethnically diverse students, to increase and support over all participation and academic achievement.

School counselors are licensed educators who specialize in addressing the needs of all students in the areas of academic, career/college, and personal/social development. District 196 has school counselors at the middle and high school levels.

School social workers are licensed mental health professionals who are trained to provide support and interventions to children and families proactively and in times of emotional/mental health crisis.

District 196 offers a range of special education services to support students of all ages. These services support students from birth through age 21 that meet the State of Minnesota’s criteria for special education and who are in need of special education services.
