Susan McMurchie, Jackie Schultz and Katie McPherson are the Resource teachers at Shannon Park. We teach students who have been identified through the child study process as having specific learning disabilities. In addition,we are consultants to both classroom teachers and parents. We are also members of the Child Study Team and assess the academic skills of students who have been referred.

When a student has been identified as learning disabled it means they qualify for our special education program. They have average to above average ability, but there is a significant, severe difference between this ability and their academic performance. In addition, they exhibit an information processing problem and severe academic underachievement.

We tutor students on a daily basis in small group settings. The majority of their day is in the mainstream classroom. We work on specific academic goals and objectives to help them be more successful. We also facilitate a LD awareness/self-esteem group for our fourth and fifth grade students.
