Need Some Reminders?

Download the Junior or Senior summer letter. It contains much information on how to prepare for the year ahead!

All juniors read Candice Millard's The River of Doubt: Theodore Rosevelt's Darkest Journey to prepare for the first unit of study.

All seniors read Dr. Mark Plotkin's Tales of a Shaman's Apprentice to prepare for the first unit of study.

Additionally, all students read a second book from the following choices:

  • The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver
  • A Walk in the Woods - Bill Bryson
  • Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut
  • Tracks:A Woman's Solo Trek Across Seventeen Hundred Miles of Australian Outback - Robyn Davidson
Support available online: Join a forum to discuss and get a jump on your understanding of your book choices.
  • Open the forum site at http://www.district196.org/ses/03_04/sesforums/index.cfm
  • Click on the join button and read the disclaimer
  • Create a username, Start with the last digit of the year you will graduate (9 or 10) followed by the first five letters of your last name (if there are that many) followed by your first initial followed by your middle initial (if you have one). Leave no blank spaces. Other usernames and usernames not associated with current SES students will be deleted. (show me some examples)
  • Use "summer" as your starting password.
  • If you have a working email address- by entering it here we can communicate with you by email throughout the year.
  • Look through the strands that have been posted and add to the discussions.
  • Remember- good forum entries advance the discussion by providing something new in a way that encourages others to participate.
  • If you do not have internet access at home stop by the library!
