A quick look at the senior year...
What
are the Dynamics of Diversity? |
| The first trimester of the senior year explores the dynamic relationships between species diversity, genetic diversity and ultimately, cultural diversity. Biodiversity, population biology, evolutionary change, and the environmental impacts of human actions are at the center of this examination. | |
What are the Relationships
Between Changes in Population and Quality of Life?
| The odometer-like references to population growth have become a staple in any essay about population. Some scholars say that when looking at population, we must focus on the numbers, specifically how we can limit them. Others argue that population numbers are the symptom of much more complex problems. Of a certainty, however, is that human activity has great impact on the natural systems that support that population. This study positions us well to examine human and environmental health and to design sustainable futures. | |
Human and Environmental
Health: Considerations of Epidemiology and Toxicology
| Despite improvements in sanitation and health care in Europe and North America over the past many decades, some infectious diseases are more rampant now that they were 40 years ago. What social, economic, and technological changes help explain this circumstance? What is the history of the toxicants that influence human health and are the products of our highly evolved socioeconomic systems? What are the economic factors related to the production, treatment and disposal of those toxicants? What are the systemic relationships between those toxicants, their pathways, and their impacts on humans and the waste stream? | |
Sustainability Considered:
How, Then, Shall We Live? |
| As closure to an intensive, full year investigation of environmental issues that face our global community, seniors at the school of environmental studies will have the opportunity to explore their own role as environmental leaders. An admirable graduate will serve the community. An admirable graduate will inform the community about issues that inspire their passion. An admirable graduate will demonstrate a high level of self-knowledge. An admirable graduate will begin their lifelong answer to the question of “How, then, shall we live?” | |
