During this exploration into the 3D world of Cinema 4D you will create the furnishings for a basic living room. The terms and 3D concepts listed below will be introduced and practiced during this lesson.
Three-space Positioning objects in space. Using absolute and relative measures of size and position.
Primitives Basic shapes that 3D software can generate quickly. We use these to speed up the production process
Surfaces Surfaces in 3D are made up of connected polygons. These surfaces can be manipulated to make most any shape. In this lesson, a cube becomes a couch.
Splines Lines used to create complex shapes. Splines are like paths that can be altered in three-space.
NURBS NURBS are dynamic objects that make 3D objects out of splines. The letters at the top of this page are made from a text spline that has modified by an extrude NURB.
Lighting Just as with PhotoShop, lighting makes all the difference in the impact of your final project. This artistic concept is powerfully reinforced in this lesson.
Rendering Unlike PhotoShop, objects in 3D need to be rendered. This process puts skin and texture on your objects and applies other effects such as lighting.
Compositing The process of combining elements into a scene. In this lesson you will combine lamps, couch, floor and such.
Exporting Your final creation is exported in a graphics format. This could be as a PhotoShop file to processed further by that program. Next trimester you will export Quicktime animation from Cinema 4D!
The lamp is the first object you will create. It will give you practice with spline and Nurb models. Click to go to the lesson. The couch is a bit easier. You'll use box models and extrusion to model the couch. It will be easier to do the couch after you've created the lamp and learned to use materials and lighting. Click to go to the lesson. The gazebo/ pagoda assignment combines the skills of the first lessons and adds a few new tools and some environment objects. Click to go to the lesson.
