Field Ornithology

During the spring Intensive Theme time, students in the field ornithology class get to spend extended periods in the local environment studying both the biology and ecology of migrant and resident birds. The course is designed to give students a broad overview of Minnesota bird life and a working knowledge of basic bird biology.

Everyday involves field time at a variety of local natural areas including:

Lebanon Hills Regional Park

Minnesota River Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Ritter Farm Park - Lakeville

Umore Park in Rosemount

In addition to observational skills, students will be exposed to hands on research as SES has an active, USFWS licensed bird banding station on site.
