National Walk to School Day Pictures
Students in grades one through five have structured physical education class two out of every six cycle days. Each lesson includes the following: a general warm-up activity, followed by the core or skill enhancing activity with he remainder of class time devoted to a game activity in which students can apply skills taught on that particular day.
The emphasis on the physical education program at Red Pine is on successful lifetime recreation and fitness. We focus on social skills as well as physical skills. Our goal is that each student will develop a positive self-concept through the physical education experiences. We look forward to providing leadership to the students of Red Pine through physical activity.

Let's get MOTIVATED!!! Red Pine Elementary has put an emphasis on TEAM in Physical Education. It's called Motivators, Huddles, and Warm Ups. Discussions were held amongst the students in which they listed cooperation, being a good listener, and encouraging one another as characteristics of being a good team member. All of these are elements that they will work on within their teams that were formed with their classmates and a class as a whole. Each grade was designated as a professional or college sport and then given their first tasks of agreeing on a team name, handshake, and cheer. During the first couple of days, the students spent their time in class working on cooperative activities and getting to know their teammates. From here, these teams will gather throughout the year in huddles to motivate each other.
District-wide Fitness Check
All Red Pine students in grades one through five participate in a district wide personal fitness assessment every fall and spring. Students are checked in the areas of:
· abdominal strength
· upper body strength and endurance
· flexibility of the lower back and hamstrings,
· cardio-respiratory endurance.
The emphasis of the fitness assessment is for each student to maintain or improve his/her level of physical fitness. District wide norms for each item of the assessment have been compiled and are sent home in the fall and spring progress report. The norms provide information in regard to each child's level of fitness in relationship to other students in the district.
Red Pine's developmentally-based physical education program emphasizes skill building, positive attitudes, and creative expression. Physical education is the place where learning the values of teamwork, cooperation, respect for rules, and respect for the diversity of others is promoted. The goal of the program is to promote active, healthy lifestyles and positive self esteem.
