Welcome to the Red Pine Media Center. Our goal here is to encourage the children to be life-long learners and readers and to prepare them to be able to access, process and communicate information in all types of media. Students are welcome in the library any time for browsing... checking out books.... reading.... using the computers.... reading or checking out magazines.... and doing research.
Students also come to library for regularly scheduled classes. Our kindergartners come down once each week to check out a book. The 1-2 graders have two 25 min. classes each cycle. On one of those days they will check out books and the other day is used for our lesson time. The students in 3-5 grade have library class once each cycle. During this time we have a lesson, read a story, and check out books.
The media classes cover a wide range of information skills and are part of a comprehensive library/media curriculum that was developed by the elementary media specialists in District 196. Some of the skills taught are literature appreciation, research skills, technology, book care, and the parts of a book as well as information about authors, illustrators and various genre.
Our Media Center is always a fun and busy place and students, teachers, and parents are always welcome.
