Freshman Respect Retreats

Posted September 27, 2011

Rosemount High School Freshmen and Parents/Guardians:

We are very excited about our upcoming Freshman Respect Retreats which are scheduled for the first week of October.  Each 9th grade student will attend on one of the following dates:

Tuesday, October 4, 2011
Wednesday, October 5, 2011
Thursday, October 6, 2011

The goal of this retreat is to build a unified class, where students work together to examine the issues of self respect, respecting others, and standing up for the value of respect.  This is a great introduction to Rosemount High School and a special opportunity for our Freshmen class.  It will give students an opportunity to build relationships with students they may not otherwise meet.  The retreat will be held at the Steeple Center in Rosemount from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm.  Students will walk from the high school, or be transported by bus in the event of inclement weather, to the retreat and a bag lunch will be provided.  We are extremely pleased to provide an opportunity for our ninth grade students to interact with junior/senior student leaders of Rosemount High School who will serve as small-group discussion facilitators.  Teachers will inform your son/daughter which day they will attend the retreat.  Please note:  All students will be back in time to ride the buses home from school on their assigned day.  This is a school authorized event, so the absence will not count against their attendance record.

Youth Frontiers, Inc. of Minneapolis will present the retreat.  This non-profit organization has been working with students in grades 4 through 12 for over 15 years to provide retreats on important values such as kindness, courage, and respect.  Their purpose is to build the character of young people, and by doing so, work to improve the climates of schools.  Youth Frontiers’ staff members will focus on creating an atmosphere of respect and non-violence in our school.  We feel this retreat will build class unity, improve school climate, and strengthen relationships among our students.

Sincerely,

Mr. Drew Storley
9th Grade Dean
