Speech/Debate in National Forensics League 100 Club

Posted October 7, 2009

Congratulations to the RHS Speech and Debate Programs for placing in the National Forensics League “100” Club. This means that our RHS chapter achieved 100 degrees or more last school year which placed it in the 10% of NFL chapters nationwide. The award is important as it demonstrates commitment to teaching essential life skills-communication, research, listening, writing and organization to a large number of students. The attainment of 100 degree is an outstanding accomplishment.

Students in speech and debate are members of the National Forensic League. They earn points based upon the number of tournaments they compete in throughout the year and how well they do at those tournaments and, based on these points, they earn degrees (ex: Merit, Distinction, Honors, Special Distinction). Someone’s degree tells how involved and successful a student is in competitive forensics. The NFL keeps track of these degrees, and being a member of the 100 club means that RHS had 100+ new degrees earned (new students to speech or debate or they moved up a degree or more) and that our school NFL chapter is in the top 10% of schools nationwide for the number of degrees earned.
