August 24, 2009
Dear Rosemount High School Community Members,
It is just about time for us to begin the 2009-2010 school year and like you, I am looking forward to the new school year with great excitement. I would like to take this opportunity to review a few start of school items from the summer mailing with you.
The summer mailing was sent to you a few weeks ago and you may have noticed that it was trimmed down from past years. In order to conserve resources, and knowing that most of our families have access to the internet, we decided to provide hard copy of essential information and the balance of the information through our web site. As was stated in the mailing, if you need any of the mailing items printed for you, stop by the main office (weekdays 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) or call us at 651-423-7501 and we will provide them for you. The complete contents of the summer mailing can be found at ( http://www.district196.org/rhs/summermailing/summermailing.pdf ).
Perhaps the most important information in the mailing was regarding the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8. Information regarding the first day of school can be found at
( http://www.district196.org/rhs/summermailing/firstday.pdf ). On Tuesday, September 8, ninth grade students should report to the Student Center at 7:30 a.m., for a full day of school and students in grades ten through twelve will start school in homerooms, at 11:00 a.m. We will have a morning supervised study hall in room 228 for those students in grades ten through twelve who need to ride the bus. Research shows that success during the transition year from middle school to high school is a critical factor in the long term academic success of students. With this in mind, we hope to maximize the positive experience for our students who are transitioning to high school by beginning the school day with ninth grade students only on Tuesday, September 8.
School pictures will be taken on the first day of school. Students should bring their completed order form and payment with them to school on September 8th. Picture information was included in the mailing and is also available at our summer mailing web site
(http://www.district196.org/rhs/summermailing/lifetouch.pdf ).
New Student Orientation is scheduled for the Student Center at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28 and is for students in grades 9-12 who are new to the Rosemount attendance area. There is not a parent component to this event.
Parents are reminded that 9 th Grade Orientation and Open House are both scheduled for Tuesday, September 1. Ninth Grade Orientation is for 9 th grade parents and students and will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Gym. Open House is designed for parents of students in all grades, but students are also welcome. Open House will begin at 7:30 p.m. in student homerooms. Homeroom locations are posted at our summer mailing web site
( http://www.district196.org/rhs/generalinfo/homerooms.pdf ). Parents of ninth grade students are welcome to attend Open House. Ninth grade students may attend their first high school dance throughout the duration of the Open House (7:30 – 9:00 p.m.).
We are currently in the midst of T1 Schedule Review. Students who wish to make a change to their T1 schedule need to come to the Rosemount High School Guidance Office by noon on Wednesday, August 26.
Many of our fall activities are well underway. Students who are interested in a fall activity and missed the start are encouraged to stop in the main office or call us at 651-423-7501. Research does show that students involved in school activities tend to enjoy academic success at school as well. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our events throughout the next few weeks and shool year.
Don’t forget that our school is here to serve you and our students. If you are ever in need of assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us.
I look forward to greeting you at our orientation and open house events. I also look forward to welcoming our students on the first day of school. My best wishes to you as you enjoy the final days of summer.
Go Irish!
