MARKING SYSTEM/CLASS RANK

The school year at RHS is divided into three marking periods or trimesters, each approximately 12 weeks long. The daily schedule is comprised of seven forty-nine minute periods. The grade point average is calculated on a 4.0 system in which:

A =4.0 A- =3.7 B+ =3.3 B =3.0 B- =2.7
C+ =2.3 C =2.0 C- =1.7 D+ =1.3
D =1.0 D- =.7 E =.3 F =0.0
P = Pass, not included in the GPA
NC = No Credit, not included in the GPA
I+ = Incomplete, not included in the GPA
S = Credit via assessment, not in the GPA

Class rank is cumulative from the beginning of ninth grade and is based on the final grades in all trimester classes.  A student may choose to take one course each trimester for a pass/no credit mark.  Class rank is figured officially only at the end of each academic school year.  Advanced Placement and Honors courses are not weighted.  The median senior class GPA is 2.8785.

Honors ranking is an alternative ranking system designed to encourage students to take the most rigorous courses of which they are capable of taking. Students who earn a grade of ā€œCā€ or better in a minimum of 23 trimester core Honors Courses, labeled Honors, Advanced Placement or College in the Schools, in grades 9 – 12 (6 per year in grades 9, 10 and 11 and 5 in grade 12) will have an Honors Rank. For qualifying students, both the Regular Class Rank and the Honor Rank are listed on report cards and transcripts.
