Adjudicators for the 19th Annual Rosemount Marching Band Festival

Richard Saucedo
Richard Saucedo is currently Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chairman at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. Under his direction, Carmel bands have received numerous state and national honors in the areas of concert, jazz and marching. The Carmel High School Wind Symphony was invited to the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in 1992 and 1999, and was named the Indiana State Champion concert band in 1999. The Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds, having been a consistent National finalist since 1995, was crowned the 2005 Bands of America Grand National Champion. Also in 2005, the Wind Symphony 1 was invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Indiana Bandmasters Association named Mr. Saucedo Indiana's "Bandmaster of the Year" for 1998-99.
The band program at Carmel currently serves 350 instrumentalists in four concert bands, four jazz ensembles, a 200-member marching band, a 140-member pep band, a competitive and non-competitive winter color guard, a competitive winter drumline, three music theory classes, a jazz improvisation class, a music technology class and two percussion classes.
Mr. Saucedo is a freelance arranger and composer, having released numerous marching band arrangements, concert band works and choral compositions. He is currently on the writing staff for Hal Leonard Corporation.
Mr. Saucedo is constantly in demand as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor for concert band, jazz band, marching band, orchestra and show choir. He has served as Music Caption Head for the Drum Corps Midwest Judges Guild and as a brass and music judge for Drum Corps International. Mr. Saucedo is currently brass arranger and music ensemble consultant for the DCI World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, Illinois. The Cavaliers will perform a show of original music by Mr. Saucedo during the 2002 Drum Corps International Season.
Mr. Saucedo did his undergraduate work at Indiana University in Bloomington and finished his masters degree at Butler University in Indianapolis.
David McGrath
David McGrath has directed high school bands the past twenty years in both the states of Michigan and Georgia. Bands under his direction have received numerous honors which include: eleven appearances at the Michigan state marching band championships (capturing nine state championships); being consistent finalists at Bands of America events (the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Marching Band was named the 1999 Bands of America Grand National Champion); invitations and performances for numerous regional and national concert festivals and clinics (including the 2000 and 2006 and 2007 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival), and performing an hour-long concert for President Bill Clinton (1996).
Recent ensemble honors at Kell High School include: Finalists at every Bands of America Regional Marching Competition at which the band has performed the past three years (including the 2006 Atlanta Super-Regional Competition); Grand Champions (sweeping all caption awards) at the 2005 Brookwood Invitational, and Grand Champion at the 2005 and 2006 Lassiter Marching Band Showcase; straight “superior” ratings at the 2006 GMEA District XII LGPE Festival; The Kell Wind Ensemble was one of 17 high school ensembles from throughout the United States to perform at the prestigious 2007 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2007-2008 Kell Wind Ensemble has accepted invitations to perform at the 2008 January Music Festival (Sponsored by the University of Georgia), as well as the 2008 Georgia Music Educator’s State Convention held in Savannah in January, 2008.
Mr. McGrath is active as a concert band, drum corps and marching band adjudicator and clinician. He is a member of the GMEA and the MENC. He is currently the director of bands at Carlton J. Kell High School, in Marietta Georgia.
Mr. McGrath and his wife, Kimberly, have been married for 13 years, and they are kept very busy by two young sons, Nathanial and Logan.
Marc Whitlock
Mr. Marc Whitlock serves as the Director of Bands for the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park in Canton, Michigan. Mr. Whitlock duties include teaching the four concert bands at the high school, directing the marching band, assists at the middle schools, and serves in all areas of the program. Under his direction, the band program has participated in the Bands of American National Concert Band Festival, is the current Michigan state champion for marching band, has been a national finalist at the BOA Grand Nationals competition in Indianapolis, and has earned superior ratings for concert band at the district, state, and national levels. Mr. Whitlock was also the recipient of the Plymouth High School "Marathon Award" for his outstanding work ethic and extra time spent outside of school helping students.
Prior to his appointment at PCEP, Mr. Whitlock served as the Director of Bands at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. Under his direction, the Hebron band was named Class AA Champion and Finalist in 2001 and 2002 at the Bands of America Regional Championships. The Hebron Band also achieved superior ratings at UIL state competition and earned the school's first Sweepstakes Award in 2003.
Mr. Whitlock was formerly on the faculty at Marian Catholic High School and served as the Associate Director of Bands and the Percussion Director. While at Marian Catholic the band was named the Bands of America National Champion in 1994, 1997, and 2000. The band also represented the state of Illinois in Washington, DC for the 2001 Inauguration of President George W. Bush.
Mr. Whitlock earned his undergraduate degree from Morehead State University and is currently in graduate studies with the American Band College. He has also attended the conducting symposium at the University of North Texas. He has received Certificates of Commendation from the state of New Jersey and the state of Kentucky. Additionally, organizations such as Outstanding Young Men of America, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society of Education, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers have also honored him.
Mr. Whitlock is the former brass manager for the Tony and Emmy award winning Broadway production of "Blast!" and serves as a musical advisor as needed.
Mr. Whitlock has been actively involved in the drum corps activity since 1980, being a member of several corps including The Cadets. Since then he has been in demand as a clinician/teacher for many corps, such as the Star of Indiana, Phantom Regiment, Cavaliers, Cadets, Carolina Crown, and the Santa Clara Vanguard.
Mr. Whitlock has performed as a clinician, adjudicator, visual designer, percussion designer, and/or instrumental technician in forty states and Europe.
Adam Sage
Adam Sage is the designer and caption head for the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps color guard. Adam has worked with numerous programs in Florida including Tarpon Springs High School, East Lake High School, Seminole High School (1993 WGI A class Bronze medalists), Clearwater High School and Pope High School in Marietta, Georgia. Pope High School was the 2000 WGI Open class Silver medalists and the 2002 WGI World class Bronze medalists.
Adam's drum corps experience includes being a member of the Suncoast Sound from 1988 to 1989, and The Cadets of Bergen County from 1990 to 1991. He was the caption head for the Magic of Orlando from 1992 to 1993; caption head for the Crossmen from 1994 to 1995. Adam then spent 1996 through 2002 working with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps.
Adam is also actively involved with Winter Guard International (WGI). He was the director of The Company Colour Guard from 1995 to 1999. The Company was a two time WGI World Champion in the A (1995) and Open (1996) class. He was also a member of Emerald Marquis from 1990 to 1991. Sage currently works with Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia; Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennesaw, Georgia (2004 Winter Guard International Scholastic A World Champions); University of Central Florida Knights Winter Guard in Orlando, Florida; Miamisburg High School Winter Guard, Miamisburg, Ohio; and the Southern Knights Winter Guard in Brighton, England. He is also an adjudicator in the Southeast, as well as ISSMA for the state of Indiana.
When he is not teaching color guard, Adam is a fourth grade teacher in Kennesaw, Georgia where he resides.
John Howell
John Howell resides in North Huntingdon Pennsylvania. He is currently employed as a Business Education Teacher in the Hempfield Area School District where he teaches Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Web Page Design and Video Game Programming. He also is the varsity boy’s volleyball coach and the Hempfield Band visual designer and coordinator. John holds a B.A. in Business Management and an Accounting minor from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.S. in Education and a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He is a visual designer and has taught and written shows for various nationally acclaimed marching bands, drum and bugle corps and indoor winter colorguards and continues to conduct clinics and consultations for bands, winterguards, and judging associations across the United States.
He is a visual adjudicator for BOA, DCI, and the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges and has had the opportunity to judge internationally in Amsterdam, England and Japan.
