PTO: General Information

What is PTO?
PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. The Parkview PTO is an organization of parent volunteers working with Parkview staff members to provide support services for our school. The PTO is responsible for more than 20 educational and non-educational events at Parkview each year. The PTO helps to make Parkview the great school that is, and we need your help!

What does the PTO do?

* Helps to pay for an extra TEACHER to lower class sizes
* Organizes DAD’S DAY
* Helps offset the cost of class FIELD TRIPS
* Provides money for the ARTIST IN RESIDENCE program
* Provides financial support for TECHNOLOGY and LIBRARY
* Provides for and arranges GUEST SPEAKERS
* Sponsors the DARE PROGRAM and 5TH GRADE PARTY
* SCHOLORSHIP PROGRAMS for students and families
* Organize various TEACHER APPRECIATION events
* SCHOOL CARNIVAL in the spring
* Organizes many FAMILY NIGHTS throughout the year
* BOOKFAIRS and other FUNDRAISERS

These are just some of the things that the PTO is involved in. Each of the above activities and programs are key to Parkview success!

Why all the fundraisers?
Attached you will find a copy of the purposed budget for the 2007-2008 school year. As you can see, while some of the services we offer do not require any financial funding, many of the programs do. The PTO Budget is about $40,000.

What fundraisers will we hold this year?
In the past we have had as many as 10 fundraisers, and because many people asked that we try not to have as many, in 2006-2007 we “whittled it down” to 8. We would like to keep this number from rising, but ultimately we need the funds to keep our programs going. To learn more about our fundraisers, look on the general information page under fundraising.

Fundraising

This fall, for our biggest fundraiser, we have decided to sell Kathryn Beich gift wraps and products once again.(They are now under the name GREAT AMERICAN, but are the same products.)  Along with these products, we will be selling Tasty Batters Cookie Dough, Design Collection Jewelry, and Reach Out Magazine Subscriptions   This was a very successful fundraiser last year, and we hope it is even better this year!

We will also continue our SCRIP Program.  There will be a slight change this year in that we will only send in orders once a month to save on shipping costs, this will be done at the beginning of each month on line, but there will be many cards available for purchase at Parkview on an ongoing basis.  The cards that we will be selling at school will be Cub Foods, Kohls, Holiday Gas, SuperAmerica, Kwik Trip, Panera, Barnes and Noble, Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club, Chuck E. Cheese, Little Ceasers Pizza, and more.  A complete list of the available cards is on the PTO Board at Parkview.  Remember, when purchasing gift cards through SCRIP, you pay the face value of the gift card and Parkview will earn on average 5% of each gift card purchased.  There are many schools offering this program in Minnesota and they each generate a great deal of revenue…at no additional cost to you!
