The City of Lakeville applied for and received a grant for a Safe Routes to School planning study. The purpose of the study will be to identify opportunities for engineering improvements, educational, encouragement and enforcement activities that will increase the number of students safely walking and biking to Lakeville schools. Parkview Elementary was recognized as part of Lakeville City.
A Walking/Biking audit at Parkview was conducted on September 16. A representative from SRF was at our school to observe how students arrive at school from different points on the school property.
Parkview is requesting the following: A replacement of the sidewalk that can’t be plowed in the winter with a cement sidewalk. Sidewalks along the island between the 2 parking lots should be extended. An additional sidewalk for the 5th grade wing. A sidewalk that is accessible from the KG classrooms. More bike racks. Adult paid crossing guards.

The 2008-2009 school year started out great with an Open House and Parent Night. Times were changed, so as to not interfere with sports schedules. Daycare was provided.

Projected student enrollment for October 1, 2008 is 721.

Pam Haldeman plans to talk with students about discipline and what is important to Parkview and why we are such a good school.

Thank You to the PTO for the breakfast at the August 25 staff workshop.
