Topic: New Elementary Reporting System
The new report card system was established in January (2005) with a committee made up of teachers, staff and parent volunteers. Why the change? The last report card system was revised over 12 years ago.
The new report card system will bring a clearer picture of strengths and weaknesses, and this system will be easier for parents to read as well as have a better understanding of where their child is academically.
There will be a mid-term check point right before conferences. This will help prepare you to ask any question that you would like to discuss with your child’s teacher during conferences. Report cards will be sent home in your child’s backpack.
Grade level rubric descriptions are available in the school office and via the web:http://www.district196.org/elementaryreporting
Secretary’s Report: Minutes from September, Motion to Approve. Seconded, Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: The budget report for the 2006-2007 school year was handed out.
As of October 17th 2006 we have a cash balance of $6,498. The budget proposal received its first vote towards approval.
Volunteer Report: 3rd grade dose not have a grade level coordinator, all homeroom moms are responsible planning their class holiday parties for the entire school year. Please talk with your child’s teacher to get ideas, funds for the expenses and volunteers for the upcoming parties.
Advisory Council Update: The Advisory Council meets every 4th Tuesday of the Month in the library at 4:00pm. The Advisory council has many literacy projects that they are focusing on. They will kick off Usborne Reach for the stars Read–a-Thon in January, followed by an Usborne book fair and Spaghetti Dinner. This year, Students will be able to collect 100% of their pledges in Usborne books. In March, they will be hosting a Family Reading Night with a story teller, Scholastic book fair and other reading related events.
Principal’s Report: A special thank you goes out to Dawn Toth, a Parkview Parent, for presenting Parkview with a grant from Target in the amount of $2,500. The money will help fund the artist in residence program and will also help in funding fieldtrips.
Security: Every measure is being taken to make sure our kids are safe at school. Security cameras have been installed in various parts of the building. We have a Lakeville police officer who visits Parkview while addressing any areas that may be a concern.
State law requires schools to have a mock lock down drill; we have our first drill planned for October 27th at 9:45 am.
President’s Report: Open Gym night was a huge success with 26 families in attendance. The next Open Gym night is scheduled for November 10th 6:30-8:00 p.m. We had over 200 Dad’s volunteering at Dad’s Day. Thank you to so many dad’s that shared part of their day with their child and Parkview, as well as the staff and parents that helped to make this event so successful. The PTO recently purchases some new playground equipment for the kids to enjoy, it‘s called the Tornado. It’s located right by the basketball hoops outside. Sally Foster is Due Tuesday October 24th 2006. We kick off the Scholastic book fair on October 30th –November 2nd.
Tile Art Fundraiser and Craft Night will be the Topic of our November 14th PTO meeting. This is a family–oriented event, where you and your family will have the opportunity to purchase, decorate and then have your tile displayed in the Parkview library. Once again, we are partnering with Michaels to offer Family Craft Night for Parkview families. Michaels has developed four holiday crafts for families to complete.
