PTO Meeting Minutes
January 16th 2007
6:30 p.m.
Attendance:
Staff: Helen Jacobse, Stacy Tanski, Rose Bentson, Margaret Lunn, Paul Eckhoff, Kari-Lise Sohloberg, Karen Williams.
Parents: Carolyn Neubauer, Cindy Purfeerst, Kris and Ed Sieve, Sue Schnichels, Connie Normandeau, Tori Rosel, Stefani Stuckey, Stacey Wright, Dallen Schnichels, Kelli Linnerooth, Jody Polson
Guest Speaker: Barb Griffiths, she is a registered dietician and District196 Food and Nutrition Supervisor.
Barb had many great tips for families here are a few. Make half your grains whole. Choose whole-grain foods such as whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice and low fat popcorn more often. Vary your veggies. Go dark green and orange with your vegetables. Eat spinach, broccoli, carrots and sweet potatoes. Focus on fruits. Eat them at meals and at snack time, too. Get calcium–rich foods. To build strong bones, serve low fat and fat-free milk and other milk products several times a day. Go with lean proteins. Eat lean or lowfat meat, chicken, turkey and fish. Change your oil. We all need oil. Get yours from fish, nuts and liquid oil such as corn, soybean, canola and olive oil. Exercise is so important in a health lifestyle. Set a good example and be physically active and get your family to join you. Establish a routine, set aside time each day as activity time. Children need 60 minutes and adults need at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. Secretary’s Report: Minutes from November, Motion to Approved, Seconded,
Motion Carried.
Treasurer’s Report: A copy of the 2006-2007 Budget Report, The Cash Position Report and The Fundraiser Projection Report were all handed out. As of 1/16/ 07 the Cash Balance is $23,801.
Advisory Council Report: The Advisory Council meets every 4th Tuesday of the Month in the Library at 4:00pm. The Advisory council has many literacy products that they are focusing on this year. The Usborne “Reach for the Stars “Read–a-thon Program will be due on Monday January 22nd. The Children will receive a voucher at the book Fair for the amount of books they earned. They will able to redeem the voucher at the book Fair on Tuesday, January 30th and Wednesday January 31st. In March, the Advisory council will be hosting a Family Reading Night with a Story Teller, Scholastic book fair and other reading related events.
Principal’s Report:
We are pleased to welcome our new custodian Marie Reeny.
Presidents Report:
Thank you, to all of the Parkview parents that helped with donations towards field trip scholarships. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Spring Carnival Report: We are on a new path with the Carnival this year. We are going to try something new, a spaghetti dinner along with a bingo night. The PTO is working with Green Mill on catering this event, and we will be accepting donations from local businesses as prizes for the Bingo game. There will be more information to follow in the next couple of months.
Fundraiser Event: We are currently working with IMAX and Cindy Purfeerst, a Parkview parent on organizing a family fun night in March at the IMAX. Watch for more information to follow in the next month.
Culvers night: January 25th is the next Culvers day. Please remember to mention Parkview when you place your order. Parkview PTO receives a 15% kick back on purchases for the entire day. Upcoming culvers days are 2/22, 3/22, 4/26, and 5/24.
PTO Sponsored Open Gym Night: January 19th 6:30-8 p.m.
