Carnival Meeting Minutes, February 2006
Feb/19/2006 10:32
Parkview Carnival Meeting Minutes February 19, 2006
6:00pm
Attendance: Kelli Linnerooth, Connie Welp, Kay Larson (Stacy Stucker absent but sent an update for committee).
Prizes: It was determined that we will keep the prize tent in the same location as last year and will use 10 tables to house the prizes. We will have a total of 6 volunteers for the first and 7 for the second shift and 16 volunteers for the final shift. Connie will try to order prizes by March 9 due to a sale that Oriental Trading is having. We will make three plywood signs with stands for posting prize information to make it easier to see for those in line. We will also use stantions to form a line leading to the prize table and to help keep order. We will make a point of mentioning on the flyer prior to the carnival as well as at the grandstand and on the map that kids should swing by the prize table early to figure out what prizes they want to earn. It was also discussed that if we chose to have the Prize is Right game that we would request donations be new in packages. Any leftover donations would be sent to the prize tent or would go to the 5th grade party.
Games: Cindy Burpee was unable to attend this meeting due to a family emergency. We discussed each game and determined that we will not have the Treasure Chest, Putt Putt one hole golf, Soccer Kick, Envelope Game, Flag Flag, Family Photos, and Pick N Win. We will be adding the Fish race, Twister, Balloon Bust, Spin Art, and a Sports Obstacle Course/Times Race. Brett Stucker is going to work on getting the Obstacle Course together. Kay will get the Spin Art from Berean Baptist. Kay will check with the school nurse to see if we can have the Balloon Burst (latex allergies) and will see if Jason Dugan will make this game for us. We will have to check on the weather to see if the fish race will work. Kelli and Cindy will be meeting on Monday, February 27th to review the games in the basement and to make a checklist of potential needs. Kay will follow up with Berean to see what other games we can borrow.
Volunteers: Volunteer sign up sheets will be placed in the teachers lounge on February 27th. Official volunteer sign up sheets will go home with students on March 3 with a due date of March 17th. A phone bank will be scheduled for volunteers during the week of March 20th. We did get 5 volunteers to sign up during Dad’s Day on February 17th. We still need several of the chair positions to be filled. Kay will provide the PTO with an update at February 21st meeting and try to get someone to sign up. Kelly will approach Lynn Sweetman to see if she would head up signage. Kay will approach Barb Schnichels to see if she would head up the grandstand and Laura Day regarding chairing the tickets and pre-sale. Kay will also talk to Lauren West to see if she would do the publicity position again this year.
Inflatables: Stacey Stucker provided us with information regarding inflatable prices that she had found. We took a vote and determined that we would try to get two obstacle cources, one giant slide and two moonwalks for the event. Stacey is also securing prices for cotton candy, pizza, and movie candy.
Principle Update: Kay met with Pam and discussed the schedule. All was approved. Kelli will be working with the Student Council to lay our Spirit Week. We will have a Blackhawk helicopter landing at 2:30pm on the 19th to start off the event. The National Guard will then talk with the fifth grade class following the landing. The fifth grade class will start off the carnival with three to four songs and the Boy Scouts will raise the flag (we hope). Pam has approved comp time for staff who work the carnival. Pam said that the school will not be complete with construction so we will try to minimize traffic through the building. She did mention that the sculpture contest would not fit into the curriculum for students but that she would approach teachers to see if they had any ideas on how to spotlight student work during the carnival.
We did not determine rather to have the grandstand or not at this time. We had overwhelming positive response regarding the grandstand last time, but we need to have a person in charge of scheduling this event.
The next meeting will take place on March 12, 6:00pm at Kay Larson’s home.
