Patrols
Walking Patrols: Walking Patrols are assigned to four location: Gerdine and Foliage, Gerdine Path and Flagstaff, Gerdine Path and 164th Street, Foliage and Upper 162nd.
Morning Times: 8:50 - 9:15
After School: 3:45 - 4:00

Bus Patrols: There are seven buses serving Parkview students. Bus Patrols help students on and off the bus and assist the driver as needed.

Kindergarten Patrols: Kindergarten Patrols walk the kindergarten students home after a morning at school. Two fifth grade patrols team up to walk their assigned kindergartners home. Fifth graders give up part of their recess to provide this service.

Curriculum
Balanced Literacy: Shared Reading, Guided Reading, Literature Circles, Independent Reading, Shared Writing, Interactive Writing, Guided Writing/Writer's Workshop, and Independent Writing. Through these many ways of learning, your child will learn to become strategic and independent readers and writers. They will become socially interactive learners. They will also become problem solvers, investigative thinkers, and inquirers. These skills will develop through exposure to literature, rich language experiences, and systematic, intentional skill instruction in reading and writing. (1997 Rigby)

Math: Place Value, Estimating and Rounding, Addition and Subtraction (whole number and decimal), Multiplication and Division (whole number and decimal), Geometry, Statistics and Graphing, Fractions, Measurement, and Problem Solving

Science: Variables - Activities that help students discover relationships through controlled experiments; Environments - Study of terrestrial environments, plants, animals ecosystems, and equatic environments; Mixtures and Solutions - Experimenting with a variety of solutions, their concentration, saturation, and their reactions; Land forms - Experimenting with topography, mapping, and erosion with wind and water

Art: Multicultural approach; Creative, Expressive ideas; Multimedia; Art History; Exploring Crafts

Health: Disabilities - Sight, hearing, physical, emotional, and learning difficulties; Nutrition - Food groups, balanced meals, food sources, healthy choices, consumer education; Human Growth and Development - Physical changes for males and females and personal hygiene; Contagious Diseases - bacterial and viral diseases

Social Studies: Ancient Civilizations; Early people - Hunters and Gatherers, Farmers; Ancient Mesopotamia; Ancient Egypt; Ancient Greece; Ancient Rome; Europe during the Middle Ages; Map skills; Daily Oral Geography; Current Events
