Michelle Ehlers VM 93846

Meet the Da Capo Choir

Students in grades 3 & 5 at Highland Elementary have vocal music taught by Michelle Ehlers, a music specialist, for fifty minutes every four days. Students in grade 4 have fifty minutes of music every five days. Students in grades K-2 have two twenty-five minute lessons in five days. Music class involves singing, moving, reading musical notation, improvising, composing, playing a variety of classroom instruments and listening. The music we listen to comes from a variety of time periods and cultures and frequently integrates topics from the general classroom.

Our music curriculum involves a number of different methods:
Kodaly - a vocal based method that emphasizes reading, writing and thinking using quality folk music.
Orff - a method that teaches music through singing, chanting rhymes, clapping, moving and improvising.
