WHAT'S NEW?? Meet the Da Capo Choir

Students at Highland Elementary have vocal music taught by Michelle Ehlers, a music specialist, for fifty minutes every four days. Music involves singing, moving, reading musical notation, improvising, composing, playing a variety of classroom instruments and listening. The music we listen to comes from a variety of time periods and cultures and frequently integrates topics from the general classroom.

Our music curriculum involves a number of different methods:
Kodaly - a vocal based method that emphasizes reading, writing and thinking using quality folk music.
Orff - a method that teaches music through singing, chanting rhymes, clapping, moving and improvising.
