Concepts Taught

Sings with a healthy voice (matches pitches, clear diction)

Demonstrates group singing skills (blends vocal timbre, responds to conductors cues)

Uses solfege (pentatonic scale)

Sings ostinati

Sings partner songs, rounds/cannons

Plays with correct instrument technique (barred instruments)

Plays independently and with a group (2 or more ostinati at the same time)

Plays a melody accurately (pentatonic scale in CFG)

Improvises simple rhythmic ostinati

Improvises melodic and rhythmic variations on a familiar melody

Composes and arranges a variety of sound sources

Uses moveable do to read and write melodic patterns (pentatonic scale)

Reads and writes rhythmic patterns (dotted half rests, whole/half rests, sixteenth notes, time signature)

Identifies bar line and slur symbols

Demonstrates the ability to read from a musical score

Aurally recognizes form (phrases, verse/refrain, interludes)

Aurally identifies musical timbres (woodwind, brass, string, percussion, keyboard)
