Grade 4

Fourth grade is truly an exciting year for the students. It is a time of increased responsibility and work, but also one of great fun and new discoveries. In fourth grade we strive to teach skills the children will need during the year and will help them later in life.

We look forward to an exciting year watching your child grow not only in academic areas, but also in responsibility, motivation, and maturity. Your child's teacher can be reached by calling the Glacier Hills office, 651-683-8570, or through the district voice messaging system, 651-683-6969, and dialing their 5 digit extension.

Helpful Information

Attendance is Important
Expectations vary somewhat between classrooms, but many things are consistent. All students are expected to do their best academically and behaviorally, and to complete assignments on time. Because much of our work is hands on, inquiry-based, and group discussion-based, it cannot be made up at home. Regular classroom attendance is strongly encouraged.

Homework
Your child can expect daily homework. Students are expected to read outside the classroom on a daily basis. Sometimes this will be assigned reading, sometimes it is the student's choice. It is very helpful if your child has a planned reading time. Math homework varies between teachers and topics. It is our intention for math work not to take any longer than thirty minutes. Sometimes there will be no math homework because your child will have finished in class. Unfinished classroom work will also need to be completed at home. Homework is meant to teach responsibility, time management, and organizational skills. It is not meant to be punishment. Students who do not complete their homework on time will be kept in at recess to work on it. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher.
