Word Study/Spelling - On most Mondays your child will bring home a spelling list. Students will be tested on their words on Fridays. Please help your student learn these words throughout the week.
Your child will be choosing his/her own spelling words from a list of words we generate in class, based on the spelling principle for that week. Some weeks students will not have a spelling list. We will be doing various word study activities in class. This will be communicated through the planner.
Reading - Please encourage your child to read an average of 20 minutes per day. This reading can be done silently or aloud to a parent or sibling. Reading at home reinforces skills and strategies taught at school. Please record the amount of minutes read in your child’s planner along with a parent signature.
Learning Log - Each Friday your child will be writing a letter to someone in your family to share their week’s learnings. Please read the letter and take a minute to write back. This log is a great tool for communication. We hope you enjoy reading about your child’s week.
Homework Hero - Students will receive a yellow packet each Friday. This packet should be completed at home and returned by the following Thursday. The intention of the Homework Hero is to review concepts covered in class as well as test prep.
In addition to the above weekly assignments, your child will also be given homework from other academic areas including math, units, cursive and a variety of fun projects. Please be sure to check and sign the planner daily.
