ELL - English Language Learners

The ELL program is for the instruction of students of limited English proficiency in the following English language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The students that have limited English proficiency have first learned a language other than English and come from a home where the language usually spoken is other than English.

The ELL students at Glacier Hills represent a wide variety of language groups. We have students who have first languages such as Cantonese, Chinese, Hmong, Kannada, Khmer, Lao, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Somali, Twi, and Vietnamese.

Students are pulled out of their regular classrooms to have small group instruction for ELL. The amount of instruction depends on how proficient the student is. Instruction times can range from 30-60 minutes for 2-5 days per week. Students requiring ELL services are classified by three proficiency levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each of these levels, in turn, contains three distinct sublevels: Low, Mid, and High.
