 PARENT INFORMATION

The Box Office for “Play It Again Sam” will be open after school today and tomorrow from 2:45-4 pm and one hour before each performance.  Senior Preview is today at 3:30 pm and performances are Thursday, October 11-Saturday, October 13 at 7:30 pm. 

 

Perspectives on Parenting also presents 3 parenting events the week after the Parent/Teacher Conference and Teacher Convention week.  Be sure to put the following on your calendar:

 

  • Tuesday, October 23, 7:00 pm in the EVHS Media Center:  Managing Your Teenage Driver is presented by one of EVHS’s Safety Education teachers who will give you information about Eastview’s safety education course, how you can help your student be a safe driver and tips on how to parent your teenage driver.

 

  • Thursday, October 25, 7:00 pm at Falcon Ridge Middle School: College Financial Planning is presented by a local expert on how to plan financially for college.   This is an excellent opportunity for parents with students of any age. 

 

  • Saturday, October 27, 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at Eastview High School: Making Children Our Top Priority: District 196 Parent Education Conference is a district-wide conference for parents with children of all ages.  Dr. William Doherty, keynote speaker, will explore key ways you can raise your children wisely in a ”too much of everything world.”   Breakout sessions include parenting teens, internet safety, the power of positive adult role models in athletics, setting our kids up for success, and health eating for busy families. A resource fair will be available from area organizations. Attention parents of Spanish students in Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and/or 5.  Don’t miss this opportunity for any EVHS Spanish student to attend the Concordia Language Village in Bemidji, Mn.  Students will leave on November 30 around noon (Friday..no classes that day) and return December 2 around 4:00 pm (Sunday).  The cost of the camp is $139.00 and the coach bus transportation costs $70.00.  This total price of $209.00 includes instruction and room and board.  This is a wonderful opportunity to practice speaking Spanish with native speakers and other students.  The theme for the weekend is Argentina:  El Mate, El Tango y Mas, a focus on life in Argentina.  A $50.00 non-refundable deposit needs to be handed in to Sra. Aydin or the student’s Spanish teacher by Friday, October 5.  Check should be made payable to Concordia Language Villages.  The balance of $159.00 will be due on November 1.  There are still 9 spots still available.  If you have questions, contact Sra. GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

EVHS Students:  Enter the Eye on EVHS contest and win prizes, every month, all year! Entry forms can be found in the Main Office or the Attendance Office. Decorate an Eye, and answer 4 questions.

COLLEGEAND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                                         

The Explorers group has many opportunities for students to explore various careers.  Students interested in a career in the medical field may attend an open house today at Fairview Ridges Hospital. Call 952-892-2390 for details.  Students interested in animal care may attend a meeting today at the Minnesota Valley Humane Society.  See Guidance Office for flyers on all these meetings.

 

Juniors:   The MN House of Representatives is accepting applications for the High School Page Program.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 

A representative from Southern Methodist University will be in the Career Center tomorrow during 4th hour.

 

A representative from College of Visual Arts will be in the Career Center tomorrow during 7th hour.

 

A representative from the University of Missouri will be in the Career Center on Thursday, October 11 during 2nd hour.

 

The Career Center will be open tomorrow evening from 4:00 pm thru 8:00 pm.  This is a great opportunity to research colleges and careers.

 

St. Cloud Technical College is sponsoring a Career Information Night today and Thursday.  Check the website  www.sctc.edu  for information.  The Career Fair will have representatives from the construction industry, manufacturing, business and health sciences & human services.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                

The Boys Soccer Banquet for all teams (9a/10a/JV/Varsity) is scheduled for Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm.  Please mark your calendars.  More information is forthcoming.

 

The Varsity Boys Soccer team starts sectional playoffs tomorrow night against the Irish of Rosemount in our very own Lightning Stadium at 7:00 pm.  Come support the team as it pushes for a state tournament berth.

 

The Lightning Varsity Girls Soccer team earned the #1 seed in Section 3 and will play home at 5:00 tomorrow.  We appreciate your support!  Go Lightning! 

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The 9A Girls Soccer team finished their season on Friday with yet another win.  They ended with a record of 16-0-1.  Two goals were scored by Courtney Driscoll, and one each by Moe Shea, Bri MacDonald, Rachel Nault, and Kayla Sauve to defeat Metcalf 6-0.  Alex Beckman and MacDonald earned the assists.  Maddie Moore earned the shutout in goal.  Congratulations ladies on an unbeaten season!!!  Your hard work and determination paid off!  Meet at 2:45 today at the student entrance.   

 

The Girls Varsity Tennis team took care of Eagan 6-1 in their Quarter final section match.  It was a great effort by all.  Next up Richfield on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Lakeville Lifetime come out and see some good Tennis

 

The Varsity Volleyball team went 3-1 in the Lakeville North Tournament this weekend winning the consolation bracket.  Volleyball plays at home against Chaska tomorrow and is home all weekend for the Eastview Invitational!

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

Congratulations to the Eastview Debate team who had 39 debaters place in the top ten in their divisions on Saturday.  Varsity champions were Barbara Marchevsky & Semira Mohammed (Classic debate) and Michelle Patten & Alison Prater (Public Forum debate).

 

If you are interested in participating in the 2007-2008 Math Team, there will be a brief informational meeting today after school in Room C134.  Please see Mr. Haugh if you are interested but unable to attend.  The first practice will be this Thursday at 2:45

 

All students who were on the 2006-2007 Speech team and wish to audition for this season MUST attend the team meeting today at 2:40 pm in A304 (Ms. McCarty's room.)  This does include traveling team members.  This meeting is NOT FOR NEW MEMBERS--just returning ones.  Our new member interest meeting will be in November.
