 PARENT INFORMATION

Perspectives on Parenting presents 3 parenting events this week.  Be sure to put the following on your calendar:

 

 

 

There will be a 6th Man Club meeting on Monday November 5 at 7:00 pm in Room C250.  Anyone interested in helping and supporting the Boys’ Basketball program may attend.  Contact Coach Gerber with any questions.

 

The Eastview Fastpitch Softball program is selling holiday poinsettias.  These beautiful plants from Gerten’s are available in a variety of colors and a couple of different sizes, and will be delivered to you before the Thanksgiving holiday break.  Please contact Coach Haugh or a softball player by Monday October 29 if you would like to place an order.

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Registration for Quarter Two Extended Day (8th) hour classes is now open.  8th hour classes are offered to students who need to make up credit in any of the following subjects: English; Social Studies; Math; Science; Wellness; and Basic Standard Test Tutoring.  These classes are available at no cost to Eastview students and are held from 2:30 pm3:50 pm, Tuesday – Thursday.  The courses will begin on Tuesday November 13 and end on Thursday January 31.  Registration forms are available in the Guidance Department; the deadline for registering is Monday November 5.

 

Seniors: November 1 is the last day to submit Grad Ad orders or Senior Portraits for the yearbook.

 

There will be an informational meeting for any students interested in the 2008 Summer Travel Trip to Germany.  This meeting will be on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm in B226.  Information will include travel details, cost and students from previous trips will be available to answer questions.  Parents are encouraged to attend with interested students.

 

COLLEGEAND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                                         

Seniors!!!  The Burger King Scholarship application is available at www.bk.com/scholars   Criteria to apply include working  part-time on an average of 15 hours a week anywhere, involved in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.  See Guidance Office for further information.  Applications are available online thru February 15.

 

The Coca-cola Scholarship application deadline is October 30.  Got to www.coca-colascholars.org  to apply.

A representative from Dakota County Technical College will be in the Career Center on Monday, October 29 during 4th hour.

A representative from the College of St. Scholastica will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, October 30 during 2nd hour.

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                

All boys in grades 10-12 who plan on playing Boys Basketball this winter are reminded to turn in participation cards on Thursday, November 1 to Coach Harris.  Coach Harris is available at, or near the attendance office each morning.

 

All 9th Grade Boys interested in playing Basketball this winter should attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday November 1 at 3:15 pm in Room A204.  All requirements and expectations for tryouts and the season will be communicated.  This is a mandatory meeting if you plan on playing 9th grade boys basketball this winter.  See coach Gerber with any questions.

 

There will be an informational 9th Grade Girls Basketball meeting on Monday, October 29 at 2:35 pm in Room C136.  Please contact Coach Goetz with questions.

 

Girls Cross Country meeting on Monday in the Team Room, please bring your clean uniforms. Clean your spikes now so they are ready for track. The State Meet is next Saturday November 3. Think about award ideas, fun and team awards... you will vote on Monday. The banquet will be on the November 20, with food being served at 6:30.

 

Cross Country State Meet Info:  Anne Ferguson runs at 10:00 the boys will follow at 11:00. The meet will be held at St Olaf in Northfield.

 

Lightning Dance Team dedicated fan t-shirts are on sale through today. If interested, please find a team member or pick up an order form outside the Dance Studio.

 

Presale football tickets for the section playoff game against Prior Lake tomorrow at 7:00 pm will be available in the Main Office until 3:00 today.  Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens.  District & Lake Conference passes are not accepted for this game.

 

Attention all 9th Grade Boys’ Soccer players: There will be an end of the season pizza party in the East Commons on Tuesday, October 30thfrom 3-4pm.  Contact coach Selby for details or stop by Coach G in B127.   

 

The Boys Soccer Banquet for all teams (9a/10a/JV/Varsity) is scheduled for Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm.  Please mark your calendars.  More information is forthcoming.

 

Reminder to all Boys Soccer players and families to RSVP to attend the end of season banquet held at Eastview on Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm.

 

A reminder to all Softball players: your poinsettia fundraiser forms and money needs to be turned into coach Haugh on Monday.  Find him in Room C134 or office A110.

 

All Boys interested in playing Tennis should come to an informal meeting on Monday October 29 in Room C 350 at 2:40

 

ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team - All interested students and their parents should plan to attend the season orientation and informational meeting to be held Sunday, October 28, at Eastview High School, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  New skiers and their parents should attend from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  Returning skiers and parents should attend from 7:15 - 8:30 pm.  Park in the west lot, lower level, and follow the signs at the door. Learn how the team works, how we practice, and how we compete.  No prior nordic ski experience necessary.  Bring yourself, bring a friend.  Hope to see you there! The Volleyball team wants to invite all the awesome fans from last night's match to their game next Tuesday at South St. Paul against Lakeville North.  The team is providing a free fan bus.  Sign-ups will be during lunch on Monday & Tuesday in the Commons.  When you get on the bus, you will get a fan shirt while shirts last!!!

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

Congratulations to the Boy’s Cross Country team for their second place finish at the Section 3AA Championships.  The finish qualified the team for the Minnesota State Cross Country Meet at St. Olaf on November 3!  Leading the team and also qualifying as an individual for the State Meet was Senior Captain Travis Burkstrand with a 3rd place finish.  Following Travis was Sophomore Paul Thompson (18th); Senior Captain Jeff Debele (20th); Senior Captain Marty Maloney (21st); Senior Brian Griepp (37th); Senior Captain Andy Kump (41st); and Sophomore Michael Griepp (48th).  Congratulations also go to the rest of our Section team that did not race yesterday; their effort and support in practice and the race are as important to our success as those who raced yesterday.  Those members are Senior Captain Matt Brennan, Junior Ian Sharp, and Junior John Cayton; give them a pat on the back for their contribution.  The team races at St. Olaf Saturday November 3; the race is at 11:00 am, come support the boys as they compete with the best teams in the state!

 

The Eastview Girls Varsity Cross Country team finished 3rd overall at the 16 team Section 3AA Cross Country Meet yesterday. Freshman Anne Ferguson finished 3rd as an individual and qualified for the state meet. She will run in the state meet next Saturday in Norhtfield. Unfortunately McKenzie Melander was fighting off an infection, and finished 15th, but she most definitely gave everything she had to the race. Rebecca Pachuta had an extremely strong race, finishing 17th overall. Anne Feguson, Rebecca Pachuta and Mackenzie Berkstrand all ran close to personal bests on the most challenging course of the season.

The Dakota Hawks Varsity CI Soccer team beat St. Paul Humboldt 8-3 yesterday. Eastview's own Tyler Cropsey scored a goal to help give the hawks a victory.

 

Dakota Hawks PI team just finished an excellent season.  Last night they beat Lakeville 11-5.  Everyone on the team gave an excellent effort and pulled off a great win. Their season ends with 9 wins and 1 tie to clinch the #1 spot in the south conference.  They will be going to the state tournament the second weekend in November at Stillwater High School

 

The Girls Swim and Dive team wrapped up their dual meet season last night with a close loss to Eden Prairie.  The Lightning won 7 of 12 events in the 100-86 loss.  Congratulations to the senior swimmers and divers for their service to the team and good luck to the team as they continue on to the section meet in November. 

 

Varsity Volleyball beat a competitive Rosemount team last night in a 5 game match.  Lauren Grant had an EV record 28 kills.  Brittany Hanson & Lauren had 8 blocks each. The Lightning are playing in their 1st ever Section Semi-Final match against top rated Lakeville North on Tuesday!  Wear your fan shirts!!!

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

The Fall Dance Show will be held tonight at 7:00 pm in the PAC.  Tickets will be on sale at lunch or an hour before the show.  Cost is adults $7 & students $5

 

FCA will be meeting at the Placeways Monday night at 7:00.  Remember to bring your fundraiser forms and any money you've collected.  New comers are always welcome.  Stop by the guidance office with questions. 

 

All FCCLA members should plan on attending the M&M chapter meeting on November 5 at 7:00 pm.

 

German Club will be celebrating Oktoberfest on Tuesday, October 30 in Room B226.  This event will include music, games, food and fun.  All students are welcome!

 

Homecoming pictures will be available for pick up during all lunches today in the Student Commons.

 

The International Club will meet on Monday, October 29 at 2:45 in Room B221. We will carve pumpkins, share Halloween stories and discuss various cultural traditions for fall holidays. Everyone is invited.

 

A reminder to all LINC 301 invitees: if you are able to join us for the inaugural LINC 301, the first meeting will be held Monday evening at 6:15 in Room C134.  Official registration will take place that evening.

 

Can you imagine all of the students at Eastview AND SES disappearing?  That is about the number of teen drivers killed in car crashes last year!    It is Red Ribbon Week EVHS!  When you see red this week, be reminded to make safe decisions when you get into a car!  SADD wants you to celebrate with us!  We are holding a raffle for some fabulous prizes during lunch periods today.  Just stop by the table during lunch and fill out a raffle slip.  There are special prizes for anyone who enters the raffle wearing red!  So look for the table and remember to wear RED!

 

Reminder to all Eastview students interested in joining the Ski and Snowboard Club should make sure that you sign up with Mr G and purchase your bus pass for the 2007-2008 season.  Also, there is room for 2 more students on the Colorado trip- see MR G for details.
