 PARENT INFORMATION

Perspectives on Parenting presents 3 parenting events this week.  Be sure to put the following on your calendar:

 

  • MANAGING YOUR TEENAGE DRIVE IS RESCHEDULED TO TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6 AT 7:00 pm BECAUSE OF THE EVHS FOOTBALL GAME:  Tuesday, October 23, 7:00 pm in the EVHS Media Center:  Managing Your Teenage Driver is presented by one of EVHS’s Safety Education teachers who will give you information about Eastview’s safety education course, how you can help your student be a safe driver and tips on how to parent your teenage driver.

 

  • Thursday, October 25, 7:00 pm at Falcon Ridge Middle School: College Financial Planning is presented by a local expert on how to plan financially for college.   This is an excellent opportunity for parents with students of any age. 

 

  • Saturday, October 27, 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at Eastview High School: Making Children Our Top Priority: District 196 Parent Education Conference is a district-wide conference for parents with children of all ages.  Dr. William Doherty, keynote speaker, will explore key ways you can raise your children wisely in a ”too much of everything world.”   Breakout sessions include parenting teens, internet safety, the power of positive adult role models in athletics, setting our kids up for success, and health eating for busy families. A resource fair will be available from area organizations. Reminder to parents of Girls Tennis Players:  Our poster/memory book making will be tonight 7:00-9:00 in the Eastview Commons.  We would like each parent to complete their daughter's poster or memory page.  If you cannot attend please keep Tuesday, October 30, or Thursday, November 11, open as we will have additional sessions those nights

Seniors: November 1 is the last day to submit Grad Ad orders or Senior Portraits for the yearbook.

 

This is Red Ribbon Week, Eastview!  Red Ribbon week is celebrated in communities around the United States with reminders to teens and their families to make safe decisions especially when it comes to driving, drug use and alcohol use.  Accidents rates are highest for teen drivers.  We want you to make good decisions and to stay safe!

 

COLLEGEAND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                                         

Seniors!!!  The Burger King Scholarship application is available at www.bk.com/scholars   Criteria to apply include working at Burger King, involved in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.  See Guidance Office for further information.

 

A student from Luther College will be visiting Eastview High School Students today during 7th hour.  The representative is a graduate of Eastview High School.

 

The Coca-cola Scholarship application deadline is October 30.  Got to www.coca-colascholars.org  to apply.

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                

There will be a meeting of the Boys Cross Country team today; immediately after school in Room B327.  We will vote for banquet awards and turn in any remaining uniforms for runners whose season is done.

 

Lightning Dance Team dedicated fan t-shirts are on sale this week. If interested, please find a team member or pick up an order form outside the Dance Studio. Orders are due this Friday!

 

Presale football tickets for the section playoff game tonight at 7:00 pm will be available in the Main Office until 3:00.  Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens.  District & Lake Conference passes are not accepted for this game.

 

Reminder: to all Freshman Football players to turn in their equipment immediately after school today from 2:30 to 3:15. There will be a Pizza Party in the East Commons from 3:15- 4:15 for all Freshman Football players that return their equipment.  If you can’t make it see Coach Griffith.  

 

Girls Hockey tryout meeting will be held tomorrow at 4:30 pm in the East Commons. Information regarding tryout dates and procedures will be available as well as information for the Duluth Scrimmage trip.

 

The Boys Soccer Banquet for all teams (9a/10a/JV/Varsity) is scheduled for Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm.  Please mark your calendars.  More information is forthcoming.

 

Reminder to all Boys Soccer players and families to RSVP to attend the end of season banquet held at Eastview on Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm.

 

Congratulations to our Girls Soccer team on advancing to the state tournament!  Their first game will be played at 5:30 pm this Thursday vs. Armstrong at Park High School in Cottage Grove.  We will be offering a fan bus to this game!!  In order to ride the bus you must sign-up in the Main Office by 3:00 pm on Wednesday.  The cost to ride the bus is $5.  Tickets for the game will be available at the game for a cost of $7 for adults and $5 for students.

 

Attention all JV Soccer players:  Please check in with Coach Dye today about final arrangements for the end of the year party for tomorrow.

 

Attention Soccer Cheerleaders:  Please bring your $65 to Mrs. Cross in the Guidance Office for soccer cheer sweatshirts.  Money is due before the end of the school day Wednesday.

 

Attention all Girls’ Softball players – The softball poinsettia fundraiser is in progress.  If you do not have an order form and information sheet, please stop by to see Mr. Haugh in Room C134 or office A110 to pick one up

 

All Boys interested in Tennis should come to an informal meeting on Monday October 29 in Room C 350 at 2:40

 

Congrats To Alexis Brown as she qualified for the Girls State Tennis Tourney this Friday and Saturday At the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Alexis was runner –up to Tooli Wilkins the #1 ranked player in State the match was remarkable with Tooli winning a thriller 7-5, 6-4 good luck Lexi!!!

 

ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team - All interested students and their parents should plan to attend the season orientation and informational meeting to be held Sunday, October 28, at Eastview High School, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  New skiers and their parents should attend from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  Returning skiers and parents should attend from 7:15 - 8:30 pm.  Park in the west lot, lower level, and follow the signs at the door. Learn how the team works, how we practice, and how we compete.  No prior nordic ski experience necessary.  Bring yourself, bring a friend.  Hope to see you there! Interested in the team but have an immovable schedule conflict?  Contact coach Brian Abery via email at: abery001@umn.edu.

 

All Wrestlers are encouraged to work the youth clinic that begins this Thursday at 6:30 pm.

The Dakota Hawks Varsity Soccer team won 9-0 against Johnson High School. Nolan Anderson scored 3 goals and Tyler Cropsey scored 1 goal.

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

Reminder to all Book Club members--meet tonight at Barnes & Noble in Apple Valley at 7:00 pm to discuss our selection of the month. 

 

The Chess team defeated Eagan last night 3-2 to run their winning streak to 25 games.  Then final match is against Apple Valley tomorrow for a chance to win their 2nd conference title in a row.  Good luck, guys!

 

Reminder there will be an Investment Club Meeting tomorrow at 7:00 am in Room C239.  New members are welcome!

 

A reminder that the Math Team will practice today and Thursday in Room C134, right after school.  Please see Mr. Haugh with any questions.

 

A reminder to all LINC 301 invitees: The 1st session of LINC 301 is scheduled for next Monday evening, October 29.  Listen to announcements later this week for exact time and location.  Official registration will take place at the meeting Monday – just show up with a pencil and a smile!

 

Do you like to act and argue?  Come join the Mock Trial team!  Informational meetings will be held at 7:00 and 2:35 on Thursday, October 25.  If you have any questions, see Ms. Lieffort in C235.

 

What a busy week for SADD!  There will be a general meeting of all SADD members on Wednesday morning at 7:00 in Room A101.  Be sure to be there to learn about Red Ribbon Week activities. In addition, our Youth Teaching Youth coordinator will be holding training after school tomorrow, in A101.  If you are thinking about taking advantage of this fun opportunity to share

 

Steppers interested in performing during the school day, Tuesday, October 30—we will practice tomorrow and Thursday, October 25 at 2:45 in the 3C Locker Bay.  You must be present both days to participate! See Ms. D or Ms. M with questions.

 

For those that are interested in Knowledge Bowl/Quiz Bowl there will be an Informational Meeting on:  Thursday, October 25At 2:30 pm In Room C336 See Mr. Kelly if you have any questions.

 

All LEAP members and other people interested in our 5 R’s reduce, recycle, reuse, rethink and refuse campaign need to attend our meeting this Thursday at 2:30 in C337.  We need to finalize plans for the next event and pick up permission slips for a November 1 after school field trip to the Eagan Recycling center.  Everyone is welcome.  See Ms Porterfield with questions.

 

Reminder to all Eastview students interested in joining the Ski and Snowboard Club should make sure that you sign up with Mr G and purchase your bus pass for the 2007-2008 season.  Also, there is room for 2 more students on the Colorado trip- see MR G for details.

 

The Voices, Literary Arts Magazine, staff will meet after school tomorrow in Room C334.  All students interested in writing, art or graphic design, are invited to attend.

 

All EVHS students who bought a 2006-2007 Yearbook: you have already paid for your Spring Supplement. They are here! Check out the Spring sports, Prom, Graduation, and more. You can pick up your copy in the Commons any day this week during lunch.

 

Yearbookers: Today marks the beginning of Deadline 2. Assignments have been distributed. Please come Tuesday and Thursday prepared to help finish any incomplete Deadline 1 pages, or to begin your new page.
